Hello, Future Pupils or Parents, My name is Dodge C., and I am, as stated above, a veteran of the United States Navy, as well as a middle-school (eighth grade) para-educator. I have also worked in the elementary school level grades. I am interested in tutoring for a couple of reasons. The biggest reason was that I have traveled around the world, I have seen many approaches to education, and to me there was an inherent problem with the way that education was being approached in our great nation. To me, it cannot be said enough that strong leadership in a youth's life is the most determining factor in their adult lives. I myself am a personal example of this, having grown up in a family of staunch Americans, almost all of whom were veterans. While the knowledge content your child receives from tutoring is important, I do not believe it is the most important factor holding them back from comprehension of whichever subject your child is struggling in. While your child, or you yourself as a student, have been in school, the education system has provided the information necessary for success. I believe that what has been missing is the relationship that must be built between humans, and even animals in nature for that matter, before information can be successfully communicated, transferred, then in turn, truly comprehended and understood. I firmly believe that tutoring is not just about a tutor endlessly droning on about some content knowledge area, with the pupil doing nothing but listening, regurgitating information, and taking tests, but it is about a connection and understanding that the future is out there for young people, and that future can only be as bright as you make it. I look not only to tutor, but to be a positive influence and mentor in today's society. I hope we have the chance to interact, and please do not hesitate to ask any question of me you wish. Dodge C.
